Welcome to Hotel Chateauneuf Plaza

Hotel Chateauneuf Plaza, located at 2 Rue Montcalm in Gatineau, Quebec, offers travelers a comfortable and unpretentious stay just steps from the scenic Ottawa River and cultural landmarks like the Canadian Museum of History. While the hotel holds a modest rating of 3.8, it serves as a practical choice for visitors seeking convenience, affordability, and a blend of classic charm with modern amenities.

Guests often note the hotel's spacious rooms, many equipped with kitchenettes—complete with a fridge and microwave—ideal for extended stays or those who appreciate some home comforts. The soundproofed rooms provide a quiet retreat after a day exploring nearby riverside Jacques Cartier Park or indulging in the local French cuisine scene. The lobby welcomes visitors with a straightforward, pleasant atmosphere, while the friendly front desk staff ensure check-in and departure are hassle-free.

Despite mixed reviews about its somewhat dated décor, the hotel’s charm lies in its honesty and functionality. It doesn’t pretend to be luxurious but delivers clean bathrooms, ample parking at a reasonable rate, and useful touches such as automatic doors that allow guests to come and go freely. Guests have praised the serene views from higher floors, especially from rooms overlooking the Ottawa River, enhancing the overall guest experience.

Whether arriving for a conference or a leisurely visit, Hotel Chateauneuf Plaza stands as a solid option in Gatineau’s hospitality landscape. Its proximity to major attractions and practical amenities make it a satisfying choice for travelers who value substance over flash. In a market saturated with overrated hotels, this place offers a refreshingly straightforward stay that lets guests focus on what really matters: their visit and comfort.

This hotel seems to be getting a lot of backlash, but it's just fine to me. A lot of people complain about it being "old" or "outdated," but honestly? Take that with a grain of salt, as it looks fine to me. But here's a heads-up: my review is rather lengthy as I try to get all the features in. So bear with me. An impressive lobby greets you as you enter the hotel. The check-in staff seem to be courteous, and nearby that area is a small mini-bar. The bedroom itself has a closet with a (non-functioning) safe, fold-out luggage table and some extra bedding plus an iron. A small coffee machine sits nearby, with a fridge beneath it, and both work just fine. This corridor has two doors, one for the hall and one for the actual room. This helps to dial down the sound outside. I found the beds had soft pillows, the TV would work and powers on with a loud noise (good luck finding anything good, English speakers), the curtains open to a dirty white view as the window is quite dirty. Pretty solid, though, and the bathroom has some variety with a hair dryer. Moving onto the buffet, there's a pretty good selection of foods available. You can choose to enjoy the fruit, cereals, hot food and pastries they have to offer. This was the first time I discovered French toast in a buffet setting, and I added caramel sauce to it. Quite delish! Cookies, muffins and bread add to the pastry selection. Yum. There is a lounge on the second floor that you can access from the stairs near the artificial waterfall, with a payphone and chairs to relax in. I'll try to speed things up and say that the parking was confusing, but supposedly you are intended to park underground. Sound good? Overall a pretty good hotel, but they should clean the windows, fix the safe and maybe the vending machine on the 4th floor? Chateauneuf isn't that bad otherwise.

Hotel name has changed to Plaza Hotel. Room is good size. Fridge and microwave in room. Breakfast buffet available for about $15 per person. It was decent. Front staff Friendly. Parking garage avaliable for $14 per day. Automatic door, can come and go as you please.

I was very skeptical in the beginning looking into the recent poor reviews. It was a last minute booking as I was attending a conference and all venues close by were sold out. Pros: 1. Excellent serene view from the 10th floor. 2. Well spaced rooms with a nice kitchenette. 3. Clean bathroom. 4. Quite and sound proofed rooms. 5. I had to just cross the road to reach the wonderful ottawa river. 6. Very close to city centre with transit taxi service that requires you to just press a button to book taxi in seconds. 7.Lifts were working fine Cons: 1. The front desk should be trained to be polite. I could sense selective behaviour by one of the white staffers who used to generally sit in the mornings. She was not helpful at all on the first day ( 20 sept at around 3.00 pm) when I reached thorougly jet lagged from India. Her demeanour was rude and unwelcoming. The other staffs were all good. 2. Cleaning of rooms were not carried out daily 3. Towels were not replaced daily 4.Except for buffet breakfast, no all time dining facility. We need to go out or fetch ramen in the small store near front desk. Overall it was a pleasant stay for me.
